Drumheller, Alberta, a popular tourist destination for “Hoodoos”, or tent rocks and dinosaur bones is home to Hut 8 Mining’s first Blockbox Data Centers. Being strategically located in Alberta where electricity costs are low due to an abundance of natural gas power, as well as a year-round cool climate, allows Hut8 Mining to access maximize the performance of the ASIC chips. The facility has 17 BlockBoxAC data centres with an aggregate power capacity of approximately 18.7 MW.
Economic Development officer for the Town of Drumheller, Julia Fielding, is excited by the development. “It is pretty cool, this is enormous,” she said. “We have people from Drumheller working there and I think what we have to do as a town is see what other opportunities we can use to build on this.” Bitfury, the global leader in cryptocurrency mining technology and will supply Hut 8 Mining with a proprietary mix of hardware software, installation and 24/7 monitoring and operational services.
